North African cuisine is what the klutz is about this week, wild exotic aromas will fill the air of one’s home and those dinner party guests will enjoy the flavourful bounty on offer with the party becoming one of those never to be forgotten night and the host will be the talk of the town.
HOT COOKING TIPS OF THE WEEK
Quickie Fruity treat - Fill halved juicy, ripe peaches with creamy Gorgonzola cheese. Serve with slices of toasted raisin bread.
Amazing apple pie - When making your next apple pie, try crumbling a little marzipan with the flour and butter. Omit the cinnamon and add a bit of lemon juice and zest.
Passata - Passata, which consists of cooked, canned tomatoes that have been pressed through a sieve, is a popular ingredient in Italian dishes. It's ideal to use in pasta sauces or as a pizza topping and should be readily available from your local supermarket. If you can't find it, simply press canned plum tomatoes through a sieve to remove seeds.
SPICE BLEND

NEW JAZZ & SMOOTH JAZZ CD REVIEWS by Eric Alan
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The new “Jazzing & Jiving, The Cape Town Sessions” compilation from African Cream is as usual beautifully packaged. Does it do the job for those selected Cape musicians who are featured through the album? Oh yes, it does and offers much more. The album twill hold pride of place in the car stereo system as the variety of Cape music and use of musicians not normally heard in this format is masterful. Some great original tunes mixed with many not heard in any format before adds to the enjoyment and celebration of Cape music.
I’ve really been enjoying Cuban jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca’s “Akokan” from Enja Records. He shows why he is one of the fast rising stars on the jazz scene. Starting out following his father on the drums at an early age he switched to piano at the age of 8. He paid his dues as Ibrahim Ferrer’s pianist, worked hard to find his own sound and style. He has been successful as is proven by his sixth album “Akokan”. He weaves his magic that compels one to listen with full attention by cutting out any extraneous sounds or annoyances and concentrating solely on the music pouring joyfully out of the sound system.
Pianist, Vocalist, jazz educator, bandleader Gloria Cooper’s “Dedicated to You” offers a wonderful selection of little know songs on her second album. Dr Cooper takes her craft seriously and her passion for education is well known and shows. The album takes the art of singing great songs to a new level, Great musical arrangements, sensitive piano and pure listening pleasure. Only her second album after over 25 years in the business, why? I look forward to her return visit to Cape Town.
This is for the most adventurous of jazz lovers, Patrick Moraz and Bill Bruford’s “In Tokyo” The former Yes and Moody Blues keyboardist and the former King Crimson drummer both remain as busy and active as ever taking and crossing the boundaries of music. This complex live duo album is one that should not be taken lightly it is a very serious listen. There are exciting times ahead for this formation. “In Tokyo” is a demanding album that keeps ones attention focused at all times whilst listening. It offers an interesting journey into the sound of music from the fringes of jazz.

This Weeks Humorscope
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Your relatives may try to have you committed, today. Luckily, through a series of amusing misadventures, they will fail. You and your large invisible friend will simply shrug it off, of course, since it's not in your disposition to hold a grudge.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Good time to institute "show and tell" at the office. Why should kids have all the fun? You could break the ice by bringing in your stamp collection, no?
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Good time to invest in flowers and a card. Sometimes no occasion is the best occasion. Just like sometimes no disfiguring disease is the best disfiguring disease, I guess.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Time to commit some random acts of kindness. I have developed an algorithm for this. The next time someone asks you for a quarter (or any small coin), take one out of your pocket, and toss it in the air. Heads, give it to them. Tails, put it back in your pocket, and tell them you haven't got any. Or whatever - remember, the important thing is to be RANDOM.
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
Not a good time to go forth and conquer. Try going fifth, and hover in the background.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
You will discover a new "5th law" of Thermodynamics. The first law says "you can't win". The second law says "you can't break even". The 5th law, however, says "never draw to an inside straight".
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
An old man with bad teeth will whack you with his cane today, as you walk past. He'll pretend it was an accident.
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
Good day to take up knitting, on horseback. Everyone needs an adventure.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Today will be a celebration of life, love, and art. Also, the start of a nagging fear that you'll find out something terribly unpleasant while doing your taxes.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 20)
Absolutely marvelous day to complain, grumble, gripe, or whine. Remember: if you're going to do something, do it well.
Aquarius (January 21 - February 18)
Excellent time to show the world that plaid and stripes do too mix. (Tip #12 of Arnold Pinknobble's "How To Get Noticed".)
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
Your parents think your motorcycle is too dangerous, but that's OK. Let's just hope they don't find out that you've been jumping it over the shark tank.
