Good Evening Steve and Hilary,

I am impressed with who you are across the pond and was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing DEATH OF A BEBOP WIFE by Grange "Lady Haig" Rutan.

Al Haig was once loved in England and died in 1982, after 15 years and interviewing over 400 luminaries of the jazz world Cadence Jazz Books published last April my tome.

Hey Steve:

Just looked up your page here and since you say you write about all thing jazz in Jazz Groove, am dropping a line about what some say is my inspiring (enough so that I'm making a full-length auto-bio doc) story.

Let me know if there's anything you'd like to know since I'm up for stories being published and/or on other media with which you may be active or know folks interested in seniors' involvement in jazz, the arts, filmmaking, et al.

I may be reached at ellifordyce@msn.com.

Best,

Funny you should have something about
Gloria Lynn on your site. My father was an avid fan of hers. He introduced me to her music. Sometime he would go into his music room and listen to her for hours. She definately was a talent to be reconed with back then.

BBC Proms 2008 - Classical Jazz

The BBC do try hard to get things right at the Proms: to bring old and new together, to widen audiences horizons. But when it comes to incorporating jazz within the framework of the old classical war-horse series of concerts they invariably get it wrong. Sadly they got it wrong again last night.

It started off okay (once Gershwin's 'Strike Up the Band' was out of the way) with young British saxophonist Jason Yarde playing a newly commissioned piece of his own, 'Rhythm and Other Fascinations', t… Continue

Mike Westbrook's Concert Band - Celebration

In 1967 when The Beatles were recording their Sgt Pepper album at the Abbey Road studios in London - and changing popular music forever - another group of young men were in the Decca studios just a few miles away recording the album 'Celebration' and doing the same for British modern jazz.

Mike Westbrook's Concert band had been formed just a year earlier, and it was a band that had already made a name for itself on the UK jazz scene as an outfit with power, inventiveness, and a handful of soloi… Continue

Member Quotes About TGJN

Hi Tamm E!

I was just saying that you knocked this out of the park with TGJN. We have needed something like this for so long and I am telling my friends about this. I said that it is sort of like a myspace for jazz but it is actually so much more. This is real. The people here truly love jazz and we know people like that are not your average people.

I have felt for a long time that straight-ahead jazz has been slipping away from us. I have hope now that there will be a resurgence (or shall I say an insurgency:-) to bring this baby back full force!

You just knocked it out of the park. Thanks again.

xoxo,
Janie

Swagger Like Us: Thoughts on Women in Music, 2000-09

At the end of the '90s, I got excited when I realized that young girls no longer needed to hang out with creepy record-collector guys in order to find out about cool music. Doveman: Soft-Spoken But Upbeat

With the release of the 2005's The Acrobat, 2007's With My Left Hand I Raise the Dead and an album in which he covers the soundtrack to the '80s movie Footloose, Thomas Bartlett established Doveman as a true sleeper. His third album of original material with Doveman, The Conformist, is a testament to his soft-spoken style. This time around, though, he adds flourishes of upbeat synths, drums and catchy choruses.
