Cadence Magazine is a quarterly (monthly until October 2007) review of jazz, blues and improvised music published in Redwood, New York by critic/historian Bob Rusch. The magazine covers a range of styles, from early jazz and blues to the avant-garde. The magazine's parent company, Cadnor, Ltd., also owns a pair of jazz record labels (C.I.M.P. and Cadence Jazz), a record distributorship (Cadence/North Country), and a high-end audio equipment retailer (Northcountry Audio).

The All Music Guide to Jazz has described Cadence as "the premier magazine about improvised music in the world.… Cadence's oral history/interview/profiles each month are thorough and no-holds-barred.… The magazine is not to be missed."[2]
Cadence Magazine is the most comprehensive resource of its kind available anywhere, packed full with the world's most complete English language coverage of the entire Jazz and Improvised Music scenes. Dedicated to the music and its subscribers, not advertisers, Cadence is a thorough and honest guide to and through the current Jazz and Improvised Music scenes for a loyal, worldwide readership of knowledgeable, hard-core improvised music fans who find things in Cadence they can't find anywhere else. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every issue of Cadence Magazine features substantive Interviews and Oral Histories News, and about 300 editorially independent Reviews. If you are serious about Jazz, Improvised Music, & Blues, you will value, enjoy, and use Cadence.

Published since 1976 and indexed yearly ($5 per yearly index), Cadence is an objective, inexpensive, nitty-gritty, bare-bones, everything-you-need-to-know monthly. We average hundreds of record reviews in every issue (with book and video reviews, too). These reviews are 100% editorially independent: our writers have complete freedom to express their opinions (records from our own sister labels have been known to get bad reviews); and everything sent, following our guidelines, to us for review gets reviewed, as long as it is within the Jazz, Blues, and/or Creative Improvised areas. Cadence started out on a kitchen table over 30 years ago and it has survived and thrived because its readers value, respect, and depend upon it.

Our interviews, which have run as long as 80,000 words, are substantive and professionally focused. For a listing of back issues, including past interviews check out the Cadence Back Issue page.

We also carry more than 100 Jazz book and video titles, along with the finest in analog and digital audio equipment. Well known to Jazz lovers around the world for providing sound advice and knowledgeable, quick service at a reasonable price, we stand by and for the music and our customers.
Subscription rates are listed above. Payment via visa/mc/discover, international money order, postal money order, checks drawn on US banks. Simply contact us by your method of choice and supply us with your Name, Address, Phone number, and email address.

The U.S. Postal Service now charges $10.40 to mail a single copy of Cadence internationally. This is just part of the inflationary costs implemented by the U.S. Postal Service over the past few years. As a result, single issues of Cadence going to an international destination will be sent out only as part of a bulk mailing from our offices, or as part of a CD/LP and/or audio order being sent to the individual.

So if you order an issue to be sent outside the USA one week after we have had a bulk mailing. . .be patient.

Thanks for your understanding.

Tomorrow I am very excited because I will be seeing CIMP/Cadence in action and I don't even play an instrument...but I will be focused, very quiet and I will be humble, I promise.

AHH CADENCE, THE CAPPA DI TUTI OF A PLACE WHERE JAZZ EXISTS, 24/7, JUST LIKE THIS PLACE.

YOU DIDN'T LISTEN WHEN I TOLD YOU ABOUT THIS PLACE THE FIRST TIME AND BAM, HERE YOU ARE1

BECAUSE, JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE MY PUBLISHER, YOU KNOW THIS IS WHERE THE ACTION IS! I'VE CONNECTED WITH MORE THAN A FEW PEOPLE THAT ARE IN DEATH OF A BEBOP WIFE, PUBLISHED BY CADENCE JAZZ BOOKS LAST APRIL.

I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE CADENCE, CAN'T YOU SEE MY SMILE? AS A MATTER OF FACT, TWO DAYS AGO, I CAME ON AND SAW WHAT TAMM E. HUNT HAD DONE FOR MY TOME...YOU HAVE TO SAY IT IS A GREAT WAY OF SHOWCASING ME, YES?

THE PACKAGE FOR LADY SUSAN IS GOING OUT IN TOMORROW'S MAIL. HONEST, I SWEAR...AND I DON'T.

HAVE A GREAT DAY CADENCE AND I AM WAITING FOR THE ARRIVAL OF MY NEXT ISSUE...CAN'T WAIT.

Tamm E,

This is a wonderful, and important site, and my friends who have joined seem to agree. Thank you for what must be a ton of work on your end.

Warm regards,

Ron

Hi Tamm E!
I was just saying that you knocked this out of the park with TGJN. We have needed something like this for so long and I am telling my friends about this.
so much more. This is real. The people here truly love jazz and we know people like that are not your average people.

I said that it is sort of like a myspace for jazz but it is actually
I have felt for a long time that straight-ahead jazz has been slipping away from us. I have hope now that there will be a resurgence (or shall I say an insurgency:-) to bring this baby back full force!
You just knocked it out of the park. Thanks again.

xoxo,
Janie
